Make A Wish Arkansas
The Make-A-Wish Foundation is a non-profit organization that grants wishes to 2 1/2-18 year old children, who have life threatening illnesses. Their belief is this, “Wishes are more than just a nice thing, a wish experience can be a game-changer for a child with a life threatening medical condition.” For some wish kids, just making their wish come true can give them the strength and courage to comply to the medical treatments. Their mission, “We grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy.” is a powerful one. One that we can all relate to, wishes. Making kids smile or laugh is one of the greatest feelings, and seeing a child, who is terminally ill, be able to smile and be happy, should give hope to anyone.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation was founded in 1980 when it granted the wish of a seven year old child named Chris, who was fighting leukemia. His dream was to become a police officer. His wish was granted, and he spent a day touring the Arizona Department of Public Safety, fitting right in with his own police uniform. Sadly, Chris passed away the next day, but his family drew comfort from the knowledge that he had his wish granted, and his last day was spent living his dream. Since that first wish, this foundation has reached almost 200,000 children worldwide.Since Make-A-Wish is a nonprofit company, it relies mostly on fundraising and donations. Donors have many different options, whether it’s a one-time donation to fund an entire wish by adopting a wish or a monthly amount of their choosing. Individuals and groups can volunteer to raise money for the foundation. The options are endless, whether a school wants to have a bake sale or a business wants to host an event. Donors can also donate airplane miles, electronics and other items that are in high demand. If you wish to donate to the MidSouth Arkansas chapter, please visit midsouth.wish.org
